Vitreous Enamel Lined Tank
The Rinnai Hotflo 315L uses a vitreous enamel lined steel tank designed to support long-term durability.
Vitreous enamel lining helps protect the steel tank surface from stored hot water conditions. The system also includes inbuilt anode protection, which helps protect the cylinder as part of the tankβs corrosion protection design.
Correct installation, water pressure control, water quality, valve setup and servicing conditions can all affect hot water system lifespan and warranty outcomes.
Inbuilt Anode Protection
The Rinnai Hotflo 315L Electric Water Heater includes an inbuilt sacrificial anode to help extend the life of the hot water tank.
Anodes are designed to gradually wear over time as part of protecting the cylinder. This makes maintenance and water quality checks important for long-term performance.
Single and Twin Element Options
The Rinnai Hotflo 315L is available in single and twin element configurations.
A single element system is commonly used for standard electric storage replacement and can suit homes connected to suitable off-peak or standard tariff arrangements. A twin element system can provide faster recovery and additional hot water support during peak usage periods where the electrical setup and tariff arrangement suit it.
The correct option depends on household demand, selected variant, existing wiring, tariff connection and installation requirements.
Internal or External Installation
The Rinnai Hotflo 315L Electric Hot Water System is suitable for internal or external installation where the location is compliant and suitable.
This gives flexibility for homes replacing an existing indoor or outdoor electric storage system. Installation location still needs suitable access, drainage, ventilation, base support, valve setup, electrical connection and compliance with plumbing and electrical requirements.
Dual Handed Connections
The Rinnai Hotflo 315L includes dual handed connections to allow more flexibility during installation.
This can make replacement easier because the water connections can better suit different existing plumbing layouts. Dual handed connection options are useful in like-for-like replacement jobs where matching existing pipework can help reduce unnecessary plumbing changes.
Thermostatic Safety Control
The Rinnai Hotflo 315L is thermostatically controlled and includes automatic safety temperature shut-off.
This helps control stored water temperature and provides added protection as part of the systemβs safety design.
315L Electric Storage Capacity
The 315L rated capacity makes this model a practical choice for larger households and high daily hot water demand.
It provides more stored hot water than 250L systems while remaining smaller than the largest 400L electric storage units.
For many homes, 315L can be a strong balance between high-capacity electric storage and manageable installation size.
Heating Recovery Guide
The recovery rate depends on the heating element size, incoming water temperature, thermostat setting, tank condition and power supply type.
As a general guide for a 50Β°C temperature rise:
-
2.4kW element heats approximately 41.2 litres per hour
-
3.6kW element heats approximately 61.9 litres per hour
-
4.8kW element heats approximately 82.5 litres per hour
A larger element can reheat water faster, but the correct option depends on electrical suitability, tariff setup, household demand and installation requirements.

Tempering Valve and Element Information
*Element size information:
All electric hot water units are supplied as standard with a 3.6kW element unless otherwise stated on the product page, invoice, or order confirmation.
If a different element configuration is requested, such as 1.8kW or 2.4kW, the hot water unit may still arrive with the standard 3.6kW element fitted from the manufacturer. The requested 1.8kW or 2.4kW element will be supplied separately with the order for installation by a suitably licensed electrical contractor or licensed electrical licence holder.
Any element changeover, electrical connection, disconnection, wiring, testing, or modification must be carried out by a licensed electrical contractor or licensed electrical licence holder. Elements must not be changed, connected, modified, or tested by an unlicensed person.
Alternative elements supplied for non-standard configurations may be generic replacement elements and may not be the same brand as the hot water unit unless specifically stated. Generic elements are supplied to suit the requested element size and electrical configuration, but final suitability must be checked by the licensed installer before installation.
1.8kW and 2.4kW elements supplied separately with a hot water unit include a 12-month supply-only parts warranty from the date of purchase, provided the element has been correctly installed by a licensed electrical contractor or licensed electrical licence holder and used under normal operating conditions.
This element warranty covers the replacement supply of the element only. It does not include labour, call-out fees, electrical work, plumbing work, fault finding, removal, reinstallation, testing, travel, downtime, damage caused by incorrect installation, or any other associated costs. Warranty may be declined where the element has been incorrectly installed, dry-fired, modified, damaged, connected to incorrect voltage or wiring, affected by power issues, used in unsuitable water conditions, or installed by an unlicensed person.
Proof of purchase, installer details, electrical licence details, photos, and/or return of the faulty element may be required before a warranty claim is approved.
**Tempering valve information:
Where a hot water system is capable of delivering water above 50Β°C, a compliant tempering valve must be installed to control the temperature delivered to personal hygiene fixtures such as showers, baths, basins, and bathroom outlets. This helps reduce the risk of scalding and assists with meeting plumbing compliance requirements.
A tempering valve blends hot and cold water to deliver a safer controlled outlet temperature to required fixtures. The hot water unit itself may store water at a higher temperature, but the water delivered to personal hygiene outlets must be controlled where required by plumbing regulations.
If your property already has a suitable, compliant tempering valve installed, your licensed plumber can assess whether it is appropriate for use with the new hot water system. Existing valves may not always be suitable due to age, condition, compliance requirements, valve type, location, or system compatibility.
If a compliant tempering valve is not already installed, or if the existing valve is unsuitable, one must be supplied and installed by a licensed plumber as part of the hot water installation.
Tempering valves are not automatically included with every supply-only hot water unit unless specifically selected, listed as included, or purchased as part of a suitable valve kit. If a tempering valve is required, please purchase the appropriate valve kit with your order or arrange for your licensed installer to supply and install the correct tempering valve on site.
It is the customerβs responsibility to ensure the installation is completed by appropriately licensed trades and that all required valves, fittings, electrical work, plumbing work, and compliance requirements are allowed for as part of the installation.
