3-Way Kitchen Mixer Taps for Hot, Cold & Filtered Water
3-way kitchen mixer taps combine normal hot and cold kitchen water with a separate filtered-water outlet inside one tap body.
They are ideal for kitchens where you want filtered drinking water without installing a separate small filter tap beside the main mixer.
Installed Today offers 3-way mixers in stainless, black, gold and brushed nickel finishes, including high-rise, high-loop and pullout designs, with supplied and installed options available in eligible Brisbane and Gold Coast service areas.
WFW 3-Way Kitchen Mixer Range
How Does a 3-Way Kitchen Mixer Tap Work?
A 3-way mixer combines two functions within one kitchen tap.
The normal mixer controls hot and cold water for washing dishes, cleaning, filling pots and everyday kitchen use.
A separate filtered-water control supplies drinking water from the connected under-sink filtration system.
The filtered-water pathway is kept separate from the standard hot and cold supply within the tap design.
The Mixer Tap Does Not Filter the Water
A 3-way kitchen mixer is the delivery point for filtered drinking water.
The actual treatment occurs in a compatible water filter installed beneath the sink or elsewhere in the filtration system.
Without a suitable filtration system connected to the filtered-water inlet, the tap does not provide filtered water by itself.
Current WFW 3-Way Mixer Designs
| Current Mixer | Style | Finish | Good Starting Point |
|---|---|---|---|
| WFW Stainless High-Rise | High-rise | Stainless steel | Clean, simple everyday kitchen finish |
| WFW Stainless High-Loop | High-loop | Stainless steel | Taller curved-spout styling |
| WFW Gold High-Rise | High-rise | Gold | Feature tap for warmer kitchen finishes |
| WFW Brushed Nickel Pullout | Pullout | Brushed nickel | Extra flexibility for rinsing and filling |
| WFW Black High-Rise | High-rise | Black | Modern dark kitchen hardware |
| WFW Black High-Loop | High-loop | Black | Statement curved-spout design |
High-Rise 3-Way Kitchen Mixers
High-rise mixers provide generous clearance above the kitchen sink while keeping the overall design relatively simple.
The current WFW collection includes high-rise designs in stainless steel, black and gold.
Before ordering, compare tap height and spout reach with the sink bowl, splashback, windows and any shelving above the sink.
High-Loop 3-Way Kitchen Mixers
High-loop designs use a taller curved spout and can provide strong clearance over larger kitchen sinks.
Current WFW high-loop options are available in stainless steel and black.
The additional height can suit large sinks and contemporary kitchens, but the full tap height should be checked where windows, shelves or cabinets sit directly behind or above the mixer.
WFW Brushed Nickel Pullout 3-Way Mixer
The current WFW pullout mixer combines hot, cold and filtered water with a flexible pullout spray head.
This can make rinsing larger sinks, filling pots and cleaning around the sink easier than with a fixed spout.
The current pullout product is constructed from 304 stainless steel and lists a 6-Star WELS rating at 4.5L/min for the applicable mixer-water outlet.
WELS ratings and flow rates should be checked on the exact mixer being purchased rather than assumed identical across every finish or model.
Filtered Water Stays Separate Inside the Tap
One of the main design advantages of a proper 3-way mixer is the separate filtered-water pathway.
Filtered drinking water does not need to travel through the same internal pathway used for normal mixed hot and cold water.
This allows one tap body to perform both jobs while maintaining the filtered-water connection as a dedicated supply.
Using a 3-Way Mixer with an Under-Sink Water Filter
A 3-way mixer is particularly well suited to under-sink drinking-water filtration.
The normal hot and cold plumbing remains connected to the main mixer, while the filtered-water inlet is connected to the outlet of the under-sink filter.
This gives the kitchen filtered drinking water without adding another visible tap to the sink or benchtop.
Can a 3-Way Mixer Be Used with Reverse Osmosis?
Selected 3-way mixers can be used with compatible reverse-osmosis systems, but compatibility should be checked before ordering.
RO systems can have different storage tanks, tubing sizes, operating pressures and filtered-water flow characteristics compared with a standard cartridge filter.
Check the mixer connection, RO system pressure, fittings and expected filtered-water flow rather than assuming every mixer suits every RO system.
Why Filtered Water Can Flow Slower Than Normal Tap Water
Filtered water needs to pass through the connected filter cartridge or membrane before reaching the mixer.
Filtered-water flow can therefore differ from normal hot and cold tap flow.
Flow depends on the filter type, cartridge condition, water pressure, tubing size, fittings and mixer design.
A slow filtered-water outlet does not automatically mean the mixer itself is faulty.
Replacing a Normal Kitchen Mixer with a 3-Way Mixer
A 3-way mixer can often replace the existing kitchen mixer in the same sink or benchtop position.
This can be a clean upgrade where a drinking-water filter is being added and the customer does not want a second tap hole.
Before treating it as a direct replacement, check:
- Existing mixer hole
- Benchtop or sink thickness
- Tap mounting clearance
- Spout reach
- Overall tap height
- Hot and cold connections
- Filtered-water connection
- Water pressure
- Isolation valves
- Under-sink access
- Filter location
- Cartridge service access
Replacing a Kitchen Mixer and Separate Filter Tap with One 3-Way Mixer
Kitchens that already have a normal mixer plus a separate drinking-water tap can often be simplified by changing to one 3-way mixer.
This removes the need for two active tap bodies and can create a cleaner sink or benchtop layout.
The old filter-tap hole may still need to be capped, covered or incorporated into another fixture, depending on the sink or benchtop.
Choose the 3-Way Mixer Before the Benchtop Is Drilled
Kitchen renovations are the ideal time to plan the mixer and filtration system together.
Choosing the mixer early helps confirm tap position, sink clearance, under-sink filtration space and whether only one mixer hole is required.
This is especially important with stone, porcelain, ceramic and other benchtop materials where later drilling can require specialist work.
The Tap Is Only Half of the Installation
A neat 3-way mixer above the bench still needs a practical filtration setup underneath.
Check the location of waste pipes, pullout bins, shelves, drawers, dishwasher hoses and existing plumbing before choosing the filter system.
There also needs to be enough room to remove and replace the filter cartridge during future servicing.
Water Pressure Matters with 3-Way Mixer Taps
Hot, cold and filtered-water supplies all need to operate within the requirements of the selected mixer and filtration system.
Some installations may require pressure control, new isolation valves, additional fittings or changes to the existing plumbing.
Check the exact mixer's pressure requirements and the filter's operating pressure before installation.
Not Every Water Filter Is Automatically Compatible
Most common under-sink drinking-water systems can be adapted to a suitable 3-way mixer, but compatibility should still be confirmed.
Important checks include filtered-water tubing size, connection fittings, filter pressure, expected flow and available cupboard space.
Reverse osmosis and specialist filtration systems can have additional requirements.
Choosing Stainless, Black, Gold or Brushed Nickel
Stainless Steel
A versatile finish that pairs easily with stainless sinks, appliances and many kitchen styles.
Black
Strong contemporary finish that works well with dark handles, appliances and modern cabinetry.
Gold
A feature finish suited to warmer hardware palettes and statement kitchen designs.
Brushed Nickel
Softer metallic appearance with the current WFW option also adding pullout functionality.
Match the Kitchen
Compare the mixer against the sink, handles, appliances and other visible hardware rather than viewing the tap in isolation.
Clean Correctly
Use suitable non-abrasive cleaning methods to help protect plated, painted and brushed finishes.
Pullout vs Fixed 3-Way Mixer
| Style | Main Advantage | Best Fit | Check Before Ordering |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pullout | Flexible spray head | Large sinks, rinsing and filling | Under-sink hose clearance |
| High-Rise | Simple tall fixed spout | Most everyday kitchens | Spout reach and splashback clearance |
| High-Loop | Extra height and curved styling | Large sinks and statement kitchens | Window, shelf and overhead clearance |
Pair the Mixer with the Right Drinking Water Filter
The mixer controls how the water is delivered, but the connected filter determines how the drinking water is treated.
Filter selection should be based on the water source and treatment goal, not on the appearance of the mixer.
Compare cartridge type, contaminant-reduction claims, flow, servicing and replacement cost separately from the tap itself.
Servicing the Filter Is Separate from Servicing the Mixer
A 3-way mixer and the connected water filter have different maintenance requirements.
The tap contains normal mixer components such as cartridges, seals, hoses and aerators, while the filtration system has consumable filter cartridges or membranes.
Filter service intervals depend on the exact system, water quality and usage.

3-Way Mixer Tap FAQs
Common questions about choosing, ordering and installing 3-way kitchen mixer taps for hot, cold and filtered water from one tap.
What is a 3-way mixer tap?
A 3-way mixer tap is a kitchen tap that supplies hot water, cold water and filtered water through one tap body. It allows you to use a single kitchen mixer instead of having a separate filtered water tap installed beside your main mixer.
How does a 3-way mixer tap work?
A 3-way mixer tap has separate internal water pathways for regular hot and cold water, plus a separate filtered water line. This helps keep filtered water separate from the standard hot and cold supply inside the tap.
Does a 3-way mixer tap filter the water by itself?
No. A 3-way mixer tap does not filter water by itself. It needs to be connected to a suitable under sink water filter system if you want filtered drinking water from the filtered water outlet.
Do I still need an under sink water filter?
Yes, if you want filtered water. The 3-way tap is the outlet, while the under sink water filter does the filtration. The tap and filter work together to provide hot, cold and filtered water from one tap setup.
Can a 3-way mixer tap replace my existing kitchen tap?
In many homes, yes. A 3-way mixer tap can often replace an existing kitchen mixer, provided the sink or benchtop hole, plumbing connections, water pressure, under sink space and filter connection requirements are suitable.
Is a 3-way mixer tap better than a separate filtered water tap?
A 3-way mixer tap is a cleaner option for kitchens where you want filtered water without adding a second tap hole. A separate filtered water tap can still be a good option where you prefer a dedicated outlet or where the existing kitchen mixer is staying in place.
What is the difference between pullout and high-rise 3-way mixer taps?
A pullout 3-way mixer tap has a flexible pullout spray or spout section, which can be helpful for rinsing sinks, filling pots and general kitchen cleaning. A high-rise 3-way mixer tap has a fixed tall spout, giving a clean look and extra clearance over the sink.
Are black 3-way mixer taps hard to maintain?
Black 3-way mixer taps can look modern and stylish, but they should be cleaned with non-abrasive products and soft cloths. Avoid harsh chemicals, scourers and abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the finish over time.
Are stainless steel 3-way mixer taps a good choice?
Stainless steel style 3-way mixer taps are a popular choice because they suit many kitchen designs and are easy to match with sinks, appliances and existing fixtures. They are often chosen for a simple, classic kitchen finish.
Will a 3-way mixer tap fit my existing sink?
It depends on your existing tap hole, sink or benchtop thickness, available space, plumbing layout and under sink filter setup. The tap must be suitable for the existing installation position and have enough clearance for the tap body, hoses and filter connections.
Can a 3-way mixer tap be used with any water filter?
A 3-way mixer tap needs to be matched with a compatible under sink water filter system and connection size. Not every filter setup is automatically compatible, so the tap, filter, fittings, hoses and available under sink space should be checked before installation.
Will filtered water flow slower from a 3-way mixer tap?
Filtered water flow can be slower than regular tap water because it passes through the water filter cartridge first. Flow depends on the filter system, cartridge type, water pressure, hose size, tap design and cartridge condition.
Can I buy a 3-way mixer tap supply only?
Yes. Choose supply only if you already have a licensed plumber or suitable installer arranged. Supply-only pricing is for the tap only and does not include installation, filter system, cartridges, extra fittings, plumbing alterations, drilling, cabinetry changes or removal of the existing tap unless selected separately.
Can I order a 3-way mixer tap supplied and installed?
Supplied and installed options may be available for selected 3-way mixer taps in eligible Brisbane and Gold Coast service areas. Availability depends on your address, existing tap setup, sink or benchtop, under sink space, filter compatibility and installation requirements.
Does installation include drilling a new sink or benchtop hole?
Drilling, cutting, stone benchtop work, sink modification, cabinetry changes and additional plumbing work are not automatically included unless shown in the selected installation option or chosen as an add-on. Site requirements can vary between kitchens.
