Solar Homes Hot Water Rebate: Who Is Eligible?
From 1 July 2026, the main household income cap for the Victorian Solar Homes hot-water rebate is $150,000 combined taxable income for all owners. The other property and existing-system rules still matter.
Existing Victorian Home
The applicant must be the owner-occupier of the existing property where the eligible hot-water system will be installed.
Under $150,000 Combined
The combined household taxable income of all owners must be less than $150,000 per year under the current 2026 settings.
Under $3 Million
The value of the property must be under $3 million.
At Least 3 Years Old
The hot-water system being replaced must generally be at least three years old from the date of purchase.
No Prior Hot Water / Battery Rebate
The property address must not already have received a hot-water rebate or solar-battery rebate under the Solar Homes Program.
Authorised Retailer + Eligible Product
The claim must use a Solar Victoria authorised hot-water retailer and a product on the current eligible-product list.

Important Victoria Change From 1 March 2027
Victoria's building electrification rules are changing next year. From 1 March 2027, when a gas hot-water appliance in an existing home reaches end-of-life and cannot be repaired, it must generally be replaced with an efficient electric alternative such as a heat pump.
This is a future rule, not a reason to misstate the 2026 rebate position. But it is relevant for Victorian households deciding whether to install another gas system late in 2026.
