Dux Proflo 160L Electric Hot Water System – 160T1
The Dux Proflo 160L Electric Hot Water System is an Australian-made electric storage water heater designed for smaller to medium households wanting conventional stored hot water at full mains pressure.
The current Dux 160T1 is available with 2.4kW and 3.6kW element configurations. Dux's January 2026 product guide lists an actual storage capacity of 161 litres with a rated hot-water delivery of 160 litres.
Installed Today offers the Dux Proflo 160L as a supply-only water heater or with supply and installation across eligible Brisbane and Gold Coast service areas.
About the Dux Proflo 160L Electric Hot Water System
The Proflo 160L stores electrically heated water ready for household use. It is part of Dux's large Proflo electric storage range, which is designed as a straightforward option for replacing conventional electric storage hot-water systems.
The 160L model sits between the 125L and 250L Proflo units and can suit homes that need more stored capacity than a 125L cylinder without moving to a substantially larger 250L system.
Dux's current product page lists the 160L model for approximately 2–4 people. Actual suitability depends on shower duration, appliance use, household habits, electricity tariff and how many hours per day the water heater has power available for reheating.
Who Is the Dux Proflo 160L Best For?
Smaller Families
The 160L capacity can suit couples, smaller families and households with moderate hot-water demand when the electricity tariff and usage profile are appropriate.
Electric Storage Replacements
Water connections on both sides of the cylinder help make compatible replacement installations easier when replacing an older electric storage heater.
Units & Townhouses
The 160L size can suit units, townhouses and rental properties where a full-size mains-pressure storage system is required but available space remains important.
Dux Proflo 160L Key Details
*Dux specifies a 10-year tank warranty for qualifying single-family dwelling installations. Other applications receive different tank warranty coverage. Full Dux warranty conditions apply.
Dux Proflo 160T1 – 2.4kW or 3.6kW
2.4kW Element Option
A 2.4kW configuration is available within the 160T1 range. It places a lower instantaneous electrical load on the circuit but has slower recovery than the 3.6kW option.
3.6kW Element Option
A 3.6kW configuration is also available and provides faster reheating, subject to the property's electrical circuit and tariff being suitable.
Confirm the exact 160T1 element configuration required before ordering. Changing element size can affect circuit requirements and recovery time.
Is the Dux Proflo 160L Right for Your Household?
Dux's product page lists the 160L Proflo for approximately 2–4 people. Dux's January 2026 range brochure provides additional tariff-specific sizing guidance and shows the 160L model for up to 4 people on a continuous tariff.
The same Dux sizing table does not publish an off-peak household rating for the 160L model. That distinction matters because an off-peak circuit may only energise the water heater for a limited period overnight.
If the property uses restricted or off-peak electricity, do not assume a 160L cylinder will suit a 2–4 person household without checking the tariff, heating window and actual hot-water demand.
Continuous Tariff
Dux's current sizing guide shows the 160L model for up to four people when power is available to heat the tank throughout the day and night.
Off-Peak Tariff
Dux does not publish an off-peak people rating for the 160L in its January 2026 sizing table. A larger tank may be required where reheating is restricted to overnight periods.
Usage Still Matters
Long showers, multiple bathrooms, baths and appliances using hot water can materially change how much storage a household needs.
Key Features of the Dux Proflo 160L

Allow additional room for valves, pipework and servicing. Dux requires the element, thermostat, PTR valve and sacrificial anode to remain accessible.
Can the Dux Proflo 160L Be Installed Indoors or Outdoors?
Yes. Dux lists the Proflo 160L for indoor or outdoor installation.
The water heater must be installed on a flat, solid supporting surface. Dux also states that the pipework must not be used to support the water heater.
Where an indoor installation could cause property damage if leakage occurs, Dux requires an appropriately drained safe tray in accordance with applicable installation requirements.
What Is Required to Install the Dux Proflo 160L?
Dux states that its Proflo electric storage water heaters must be installed by a licensed tradesperson and in accordance with applicable plumbing, electrical and local authority requirements.
- Flat, solid supporting surface
- Compatible hot and cold water pipework
- Correct 1400 kPa PTR valve arrangement
- Suitable isolation and non-return valve arrangement

Dux Proflo 160L Water Pressure Requirements
Dux's January 2026 technical specification lists a 1400 kPa PTR valve pressure for the 160T1.
The same current specification lists a maximum inlet pressure of 1120 kPa for the Proflo 160L.
The complete cold-water valve arrangement still needs to comply with Dux instructions and applicable plumbing requirements. Where supply pressure requires additional control, the correct pressure-limiting components must be installed.
Full Mains-Pressure Hot Water
Dux states that the Proflo electric storage range provides full flow pressure to all outlets.
This makes the 160L useful as a conventional replacement for an existing mains-pressure electric storage heater where the property's demand and tariff suit this tank size.
Actual shower and tap performance will also depend on the property's incoming supply pressure, valves, pipe sizing and plumbing layout.
50mm Dense Foam Insulation
Dux specifies 50mm thick dense foam insulation for its 80L–400L Proflo electric storage range.
The insulation helps reduce heat loss from water stored in the cylinder between heating cycles. Actual electricity consumption depends on usage, water temperature, climate, element size and electricity tariff.
Is There a Hard-Water Option?
Yes. Dux lists a hard-water option for the Proflo 160L.
Dux's official replacement-anode guide lists different sacrificial anodes for average-to-hard and extremely hard water areas for the 160T1.
If the property has unusual or aggressive water chemistry, confirm the appropriate anode and maintenance requirements before installation.

Dux Proflo 160L Maintenance
Dux states that regular servicing helps extend the life of the water heater and keep it operating safely and efficiently.
The owner's manual specifies a six-month service check in which the PTR valve easing lever is operated for approximately 10 seconds and, where fitted, the expansion-control valve is also checked.
Other servicing should be carried out by an appropriately licensed tradesperson. The sacrificial anode, PTR valve, electrical components and tank condition should be maintained in accordance with Dux instructions and local water conditions.
Dux Proflo 160L Warranty
Dux warranty coverage depends on the type of application in which the water heater is installed.
| Application | Tank Warranty | Parts & Labour |
|---|---|---|
| Single Family Dwelling | 10 years | 1 year |
| All Other Applications | 3 years | 1 year |
Dux states that the warranty period begins from the installation date where proof is available. If proof of installation date cannot be supplied, the manufacturing date shown on the compliance plate is used.
The 10-year tank warranty should not automatically be applied to commercial, multi-residential or other non-single-family applications. Dux's complete warranty conditions determine coverage.

Tempering Valve and Element Information
*Element size information:
All electric hot water units are supplied as standard with a 3.6kW element unless otherwise stated on the product page, invoice, or order confirmation.
If a different element configuration is requested, such as 1.8kW or 2.4kW, the hot water unit may still arrive with the standard 3.6kW element fitted from the manufacturer. The requested 1.8kW or 2.4kW element will be supplied separately with the order for installation by a suitably licensed electrical contractor or licensed electrical licence holder.
Any element changeover, electrical connection, disconnection, wiring, testing, or modification must be carried out by a licensed electrical contractor or licensed electrical licence holder. Elements must not be changed, connected, modified, or tested by an unlicensed person.
Alternative elements supplied for non-standard configurations may be generic replacement elements and may not be the same brand as the hot water unit unless specifically stated. Generic elements are supplied to suit the requested element size and electrical configuration, but final suitability must be checked by the licensed installer before installation.
1.8kW and 2.4kW elements supplied separately with a hot water unit include a 12-month supply-only parts warranty from the date of purchase, provided the element has been correctly installed by a licensed electrical contractor or licensed electrical licence holder and used under normal operating conditions.
This element warranty covers the replacement supply of the element only. It does not include labour, call-out fees, electrical work, plumbing work, fault finding, removal, reinstallation, testing, travel, downtime, damage caused by incorrect installation, or any other associated costs. Warranty may be declined where the element has been incorrectly installed, dry-fired, modified, damaged, connected to incorrect voltage or wiring, affected by power issues, used in unsuitable water conditions, or installed by an unlicensed person.
Proof of purchase, installer details, electrical licence details, photos, and/or return of the faulty element may be required before a warranty claim is approved.
**Tempering valve information:
Where a hot water system is capable of delivering water above 50°C, a compliant tempering valve must be installed to control the temperature delivered to personal hygiene fixtures such as showers, baths, basins, and bathroom outlets. This helps reduce the risk of scalding and assists with meeting plumbing compliance requirements.
A tempering valve blends hot and cold water to deliver a safer controlled outlet temperature to required fixtures. The hot water unit itself may store water at a higher temperature, but the water delivered to personal hygiene outlets must be controlled where required by plumbing regulations.
If your property already has a suitable, compliant tempering valve installed, your licensed plumber can assess whether it is appropriate for use with the new hot water system. Existing valves may not always be suitable due to age, condition, compliance requirements, valve type, location, or system compatibility.
If a compliant tempering valve is not already installed, or if the existing valve is unsuitable, one must be supplied and installed by a licensed plumber as part of the hot water installation.
Tempering valves are not automatically included with every supply-only hot water unit unless specifically selected, listed as included, or purchased as part of a suitable valve kit. If a tempering valve is required, please purchase the appropriate valve kit with your order or arrange for your licensed installer to supply and install the correct tempering valve on site.
It is the customer’s responsibility to ensure the installation is completed by appropriately licensed trades and that all required valves, fittings, electrical work, plumbing work, and compliance requirements are allowed for as part of the installation.
