Answer a few quick questions to confirm whether you can order online now or need the 60sec Check first.

Are you replacing an existing hot water system?
This helps us work out whether this looks like a standard replacement.
Are you replacing the same hot water system, identical make and model?
If yes, the valve kit is recommended. If not, it is required at the end.
Is it going in an existing location?
Existing location means the new system goes back in the same general position.
Where is the system located?
If outside, continue. If inside or under a house, complete the 60sec Check first.
Are you changing system type, electrical connection type or needing to extend your electrical connection?
If yes, an electrical extension or new circuit may be needed, or you can organise your own electrician.

Do any site access issues apply?
If any access issue applies, we will add the 2-man install option and continue.
Does your current installation meet current compliance requirements?
If no or unsure, we will recommend a valve kit or extra works as the safer starting point.

Hot Water Drain Line To Approved Discharge Point

A hot water drain line is an important add-on for storage hot water system installations where the expansion control valve, pressure relief valve or safe tray drain needs to discharge water to an approved location.

During normal operation, storage hot water systems can release small amounts of water through the relief or expansion valves as the water heats and expands. This water must not simply run onto the ground, against the slab, into garden beds or across termite management systems. It should be directed to an approved discharge point such as sewer, stormwater, a compliant rubble pit or another suitable discharge location confirmed during installation.

This add-on service is for running a drain line from the hot water system to an approved discharge point as part of an eligible hot water installation.

Why A Drain Line May Be Needed

Storage hot water units naturally create expansion water as part of normal heating. Depending on the system, site layout and valve arrangement, this water may come from the expansion control valve, temperature pressure relief valve or safe tray drain.

If this water is not managed correctly, it can cause issues around the installation area, including:

Water pooling around the base of the hot water system

Moisture against walls, slabs, pathways or foundations

Water discharging into garden beds or soft ground

Dilution or disturbance of termite barriers and treated zones

Staining, mould or damp areas near the unit

      Uncontrolled runoff across outdoor areas

A correctly run drain line helps move this discharge water away from the unit and toward a suitable approved location.

      Approved Discharge Points

Drain lines must be run to an approved discharge point. Depending on the property, this may include:

      Sewer drainage

      Stormwater drainage

      A compliant rubble pit

An existing approved tundish or drain point

Another suitable discharge point confirmed by the installer

The correct option depends on the property layout, local requirements, access, ground conditions and the location of the hot water system. The installer will assess the site and determine whether the selected discharge point is suitable.

      Important Termite Barrier Note

Hot water discharge water should not be left to run continuously into soil, garden beds or directly around the building perimeter. In some properties, this can affect termite management zones or dilute treated areas if the water is not directed correctly.

Where a termite barrier, treated zone or termite management system may be present, the drain line should be positioned so discharge water is directed to a suitable approved location rather than soaking the area around the slab or external wall.

      What This Add-On Includes

Running a drain line from the hot water system area to a suitable approved discharge point

Connection to the relevant hot water valve where required

Basic pipework and fittings needed for the drain line run

Installer assessment of the most suitable nearby approved discharge point

Neat routing where practical based on site access and layout

      What Is Not Included

This add-on does not include major excavation, concrete cutting, core drilling, trenching, new sewer or stormwater works, pump systems, electrical work, termite treatment, repairs to existing drainage, landscaping, reinstatement work or concealed pipework unless specifically quoted and approved.

If the site requires additional work beyond a standard drain line run, this can be assessed during installation and quoted separately where available.

      Installation Only Add-On

This product is an add-on service only and must be purchased with an eligible supplied-and-installed hot water system installation. It is not available as a standalone supply-only product.

      Suitability

This add-on may be suitable when:

The new hot water system needs a relief valve, expansion valve or safe tray drain connected to a discharge point

The existing drain line is missing, damaged, poorly positioned or non-compliant

Water currently discharges onto the ground, garden bed, slab edge or near a termite barrier

The new installation location requires a drain line to be run to sewer, stormwater or a rubble pit

The installer determines that a new or improved drain line is required for the installation

      Final site suitability

Final suitability depends on the property layout, available discharge points, access, existing plumbing and local compliance requirements. The installer will confirm the best practical option during the installation.

      Tempering Valve and Element Information

      *Element size information:
All electric hot water units are supplied as standard with a 3.6kW element unless otherwise stated on the product page, invoice, or order confirmation.

If a different element configuration is requested, such as 1.8kW or 2.4kW, the hot water unit may still arrive with the standard 3.6kW element fitted from the manufacturer. The requested 1.8kW or 2.4kW element will be supplied separately with the order for installation by a suitably licensed electrical contractor or licensed electrical licence holder.

Any element changeover, electrical connection, disconnection, wiring, testing, or modification must be carried out by a licensed electrical contractor or licensed electrical licence holder. Elements must not be changed, connected, modified, or tested by an unlicensed person.

Alternative elements supplied for non-standard configurations may be generic replacement elements and may not be the same brand as the hot water unit unless specifically stated. Generic elements are supplied to suit the requested element size and electrical configuration, but final suitability must be checked by the licensed installer before installation.

1.8kW and 2.4kW elements supplied separately with a hot water unit include a 12-month supply-only parts warranty from the date of purchase, provided the element has been correctly installed by a licensed electrical contractor or licensed electrical licence holder and used under normal operating conditions.

This element warranty covers the replacement supply of the element only. It does not include labour, call-out fees, electrical work, plumbing work, fault finding, removal, reinstallation, testing, travel, downtime, damage caused by incorrect installation, or any other associated costs. Warranty may be declined where the element has been incorrectly installed, dry-fired, modified, damaged, connected to incorrect voltage or wiring, affected by power issues, used in unsuitable water conditions, or installed by an unlicensed person.

Proof of purchase, installer details, electrical licence details, photos, and/or return of the faulty element may be required before a warranty claim is approved.

      **Tempering valve information:
Where a hot water system is capable of delivering water above 50°C, a compliant tempering valve must be installed to control the temperature delivered to personal hygiene fixtures such as showers, baths, basins, and bathroom outlets. This helps reduce the risk of scalding and assists with meeting plumbing compliance requirements.

A tempering valve blends hot and cold water to deliver a safer controlled outlet temperature to required fixtures. The hot water unit itself may store water at a higher temperature, but the water delivered to personal hygiene outlets must be controlled where required by plumbing regulations.

If your property already has a suitable, compliant tempering valve installed, your licensed plumber can assess whether it is appropriate for use with the new hot water system. Existing valves may not always be suitable due to age, condition, compliance requirements, valve type, location, or system compatibility.

If a compliant tempering valve is not already installed, or if the existing valve is unsuitable, one must be supplied and installed by a licensed plumber as part of the hot water installation.

Tempering valves are not automatically included with every supply-only hot water unit unless specifically selected, listed as included, or purchased as part of a suitable valve kit. If a tempering valve is required, please purchase the appropriate valve kit with your order or arrange for your licensed installer to supply and install the correct tempering valve on site.

It is the customer’s responsibility to ensure the installation is completed by appropriately licensed trades and that all required valves, fittings, electrical work, plumbing work, and compliance requirements are allowed for as part of the installation.
