RHEEM 26L LPG CONTINUOUS FLOW HOT WATER

Rheem 26L LPG Gas Continuous Flow Hot Water System 50°C – 876A26PF

The Rheem 26L LPG Gas Continuous Flow Hot Water System 50°C is a compact outdoor water heater designed for medium to larger households wanting continuous-flow hot water without a storage cylinder.

The 876A26PF is the propane version of Rheem's 26L 876-series water heater. It provides 26 L/min nominal hot-water delivery at a 25°C temperature rise, a 6 Star energy rating, a 50°C factory preset outlet temperature and a nominal gas input of 199 MJ/hr.

Installed Today offers the Rheem 26L LPG as a supply-only gas water heater or with supply and installation across eligible Brisbane and Gold Coast service areas.

Rheem 26L LPG at a glance: model 876A26PF, propane gas, 26 L/min at a 25°C rise, 16.2 L/min at a 40°C rise, 50°C factory preset outlet temperature, 6 Star rating, 199 MJ/hr gas input, outdoor-only installation, 120 kPa minimum water pressure for rated performance, 1000 kPa maximum mains pressure and up to 12 years heat-exchanger coverage for qualifying single-family domestic installations.
ABOUT THE SYSTEM

About the Rheem 26L LPG Continuous Flow Water Heater

The Rheem 26L heats water as it passes through the appliance rather than storing a tank of hot water.

When a suitable hot-water tap is opened, the appliance detects water flow, ignites the gas burner and heats the water to the selected outlet temperature. Once demand stops, the burner shuts down.

This allows continuous hot-water operation for as long as adequate water, propane gas and electrical supplies remain available and household demand stays within the water heater's operating capacity.

IMPORTANT GAS TYPE

876A26PF Is the Propane Model

This page covers the Rheem 876A26PF propane model.

Rheem's current technical model designation may also appear as 876A26PF-LF, with the P identifying propane, F identifying frost-protection configuration and LF identifying current lead-free compliance.

The propane version must not be confused with the separately configured Natural Gas model.

Important: Rheem's current installation manual states that the propane model is designed to operate on propane only. Propane/butane mixtures such as automotive LP gas must not be used.

WHO IT SUITS

Who Is the Rheem 26L LPG Best For?

Medium to Larger Homes

The 26L model provides more flow capacity than Rheem's smaller 12L, 16L and 20L continuous-flow models.

Higher Hot-Water Demand

Rheem's current product information places the 26L around the two to 2.5 bathroom category, with actual performance dependent on incoming water temperature and simultaneous demand.

Propane Properties

The 876A26PF suits properties with a compliant propane supply, correctly sized gas pipework and a suitable outdoor installation position.

PRODUCT AT A GLANCE

Rheem 26L LPG Key Details

26 L/min At 25°C Rise
6 Star Energy Rating
199 MJ/hr Gas Input
50°C Factory Preset
FLOW PERFORMANCE

26 L/min Continuous Flow Performance

The advertised 26L capacity is measured at a 25°C water-temperature rise. As a continuous-flow appliance is required to raise the incoming water temperature further, the available flow rate reduces.

Temperature Rise Rheem 26L Published Capacity
25°C Rise 26 L/min nominal capacity
40°C Rise 16.2 L/min water-heating capacity

Actual flow at fixtures also depends on incoming water temperature, supply pressure, gas supply, pipe sizing, fixture flow rates and how many outlets are operating at the same time.

BATHROOM SIZING

How Many Bathrooms Can the Rheem 26L Supply?

Rheem's current product page places the 26L model in the 2 to 2.5 bathroom range, although its feature text also describes 26 L/min at a 25°C rise as suitable for two bathrooms.

This should be treated as a sizing guide rather than a guarantee of simultaneous full-flow operation at every outlet.

Climate, incoming cold-water temperature, shower flow rates, gas supply and simultaneous fixture use can materially change the result.

50°C MODEL

Factory Preset to 50°C

The 876 series is Rheem's 50°C factory preset continuous-flow range.

Without a remote controller connected, the 876-series water heater is configured so its maximum preset outlet temperature does not exceed 50°C.

Rheem's current plumber information identifies the 50°C model as generally not requiring a separate tempering valve for ordinary compliant applications. Some installations can still require additional temperature-control measures depending on the plumbing arrangement and applicable requirements.

The 50°C 876 series must not be treated as interchangeable with Rheem's 874-series 60°C model.

RHEEM TECHNOLOGY

Rheem Q Factor™ & FlameSafe® Protection

Rheem Q Factor™

Rheem describes Q Factor™ as technology designed to provide rapid hot water and reduce the temperature fluctuations that can occur with some continuous-flow water heaters.

FlameSafe® Protection

FlameSafe® overheat protection is designed to shut down the water heater before an overheat condition develops.

OUTDOOR INSTALLATION

The Rheem 26L LPG Is Outdoor Only

Rheem's current installation manual states that the A26 water heater is designed for outdoor installation only.

The appliance must be mounted vertically upright with the gas, water and power connections pointing downward and must remain safely accessible for servicing without requiring a ladder or scaffold.

The air inlet and flue terminal must remain unobstructed and clear of vegetation and other items that could interfere with operation.

FLUE CLEARANCES

Outdoor Flue-Terminal Clearance Requirements

The final location must comply with Rheem's installation instructions, AS/NZS 5601.1 and local requirements.

  • At least 300mm from the top of the flue terminal to eaves
  • At least 300mm horizontally from the flue terminal to relevant building openings
  • At least 1500mm vertically from the top of the flue terminal to relevant openings
  • At least 300mm horizontally from a return wall or external corner
  • At least 1500mm to an opening in the direction of flue discharge
  • At least 500mm to a fence, wall or other obstruction in the direction of discharge
  • More than 450mm to an unobstructed property boundary in the direction of discharge
  • Enough front clearance to remove the complete front panel for service

These are manufacturer installation-guide extracts and are not a substitute for the full Gas Installations Standard or licensed installer assessment.

COVERED AREAS

Special LPG Requirements for Covered Installations

An electronic continuous-flow water heater can only be installed beneath a covered area where the installation satisfies Rheem's requirements and AS/NZS 5601.1 for ventilation and safe dispersion of combustion products.

Rheem's current manual specifically states that its propane A26PF models are not certified for use with the Rheem Flue Terminal Diverter or Extended Flue Terminal Diverter.

This makes correct LPG site selection especially important where the proposed position is beneath eaves, a roofed area, balcony or similar covered location.

WATER PRESSURE

Rheem 26L Water Pressure Requirements

Rheem specifies a minimum mains water pressure of 120 kPa to achieve the rated flow and performance of the water heater.

The maximum mains water-supply pressure is 1000 kPa. Where the incoming supply can exceed this figure, Rheem requires an approved pressure-limiting valve without non-return characteristics.

The appliance incorporates a relief valve with a current manufacturer setting of 1750 kPa.

Rheem does not recommend installing this model on a low-pressure water supply.

PROPANE SUPPLY

Gas Supply & Pipe Sizing Matter

The 26L model has a substantial maximum gas input of 199 MJ/hr. The LPG supply, regulator and gas pipework therefore need to be capable of supplying the appliance correctly under operating load.

Rheem's current technical data specifies propane supply pressure between approximately 2.75 kPa and 3.50 kPa at the appliance supply under the manufacturer's conditions.

Gas pipe sizing must be determined by the licensed gas fitter in accordance with the complete installation, pipe length, regulator, other connected appliances and applicable gas-installation requirements.

ELECTRICAL SUPPLY

The Rheem 26L LPG Also Requires Power

Although the appliance heats water using propane, it also requires electricity for the electronic controls, ignition, combustion fan and frost-protection functions.

Rheem supplies the water heater with a 1.8 metre power lead and plug. A suitable weatherproof 220–240V AC, 50Hz general-purpose outlet is required within the manufacturer's permitted installation distance.

The GPO must be positioned clear of the flue exhaust, draining water, gas pipe and water connections.

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLERS

Optional Rheem Temperature Controllers

Rheem allows compatible Standard temperature controllers to be connected to a single 874 or 876-series water heater.

Kitchen Controller

Provides user temperature control from the kitchen using a compatible hard-wired Rheem controller.

Bathroom 1 Controller

Provides compatible bathroom temperature control and priority functionality.

Bathroom 2 Controller

A second compatible bathroom controller can be incorporated into an approved single-water-heater installation.

On the 876 series, the maximum outlet temperature remains 50°C when a compatible kitchen or bathroom controller is connected.

Rheem specifies that its Standard controllers are for single-water-heater installations and are not suitable where multiple continuous-flow units are manifolded together.

ACCESSORIES

Rheem 26L Accessory Options

Pipe Cover – 299430

Designed to conceal compatible pipework beneath the water heater.

Recess Box – 299427

Allows an approved recessed wall installation where all manufacturer requirements are satisfied.

INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

What Is Required to Install the Rheem 26L LPG?

FINAL CHECK

Is the Rheem 26L LPG 50°C Right for You?

The Rheem 876A26PF is suited to properties wanting a compact outdoor propane continuous-flow water heater with higher flow capacity, a 50°C factory preset outlet temperature and Rheem's 6 Star continuous-flow platform.

Choose supply only where licensed installation is already arranged, or check Installed Today's Brisbane and Gold Coast installation options.

Tempering valve information:
Where a hot water system is capable of delivering water above 50°C, a compliant tempering valve must be installed to control the temperature delivered to personal hygiene fixtures such as showers, baths, basins, and bathroom outlets. This helps reduce the risk of scalding and assists with meeting plumbing compliance requirements.

A tempering valve blends hot and cold water to deliver a safer controlled outlet temperature to required fixtures. The hot water unit itself may store water at a higher temperature, but the water delivered to personal hygiene outlets must be controlled where required by plumbing regulations.

If your property already has a suitable, compliant tempering valve installed, your licensed plumber can assess whether it is appropriate for use with the new hot water system. Existing valves may not always be suitable due to age, condition, compliance requirements, valve type, location, or system compatibility.

If a compliant tempering valve is not already installed, or if the existing valve is unsuitable, one must be supplied and installed by a licensed plumber as part of the hot water installation.

Tempering valves are not automatically included with every supply-only hot water unit unless specifically selected, listed as included, or purchased as part of a suitable valve kit. If a tempering valve is required, please purchase the appropriate valve kit with your order or arrange for your licensed installer to supply and install the correct tempering valve on site.

It is the customer’s responsibility to ensure the installation is completed by appropriately licensed trades and that all required valves, fittings, electrical work, plumbing work, and compliance requirements are allowed for as part of the installation.
