PURETEC SEMI-RECESSED WHOLE-HOUSE MAINS WATER FILTRATION

Puretec FilterWall IM2 In-Wall Whole House Water Filter

The Puretec FilterWall IM2 is a semi-recessed, in-wall whole-house filtration system designed for mains water. It combines two large-format filter cartridges with a lockable exterior cover so the filtration system can be incorporated into the wall rather than taking up additional pathway or external wall space.

The current FilterWall IM2 uses a Puretec PX05MP2 5 micron sediment cartridge followed by a Puretec CB10MP2 10 micron carbon block cartridge. Puretec lists the system for reduction of sediment, chlorine, chemicals, unwanted taste and odour, with its current whole-house range information also listing PFAS reduction for the FilterWall IM2.

Puretec lists a nominal system flow rate of 55 litres per minute, operating pressure of 200–875 kPa, 20 mm / ¾" BSP connections and 20-inch MaxiPlus cartridges.

Quick answer: the FilterWall IM2 is a 55 L/min dual-stage mains-water filter built into the wall. It uses PX05MP2 sediment filtration followed by CB10MP2 carbon filtration, includes a 500 kPa pressure limiting valve, incorporates manual isolation and bypass valves, and is available with four exterior cover colours.

SEMI-RECESSED DESIGN

Built Into the Wall Instead of Mounted in Front of It

Puretec developed the FilterWall IM2 as a semi-recessed whole-house filtration system for installations where the filter needs to integrate more closely with the exterior of the property.

The enclosure is installed within the wall structure, while the removable front cover remains accessible for servicing.

New Builds

Puretec specifically positions the FilterWall IM2 for new-home construction where the enclosure can be incorporated during the building process.

```
Phased Installation
The outer enclosure can be installed during construction, with the filtration assembly fitted later when the remaining plumbing fixtures are commissioned.
Lockable Access
The front cover uses lockable latches and can be removed when cartridge servicing or system access is required.
```
POINT-OF-ENTRY FILTRATION

Filter the Mains Supply Before Water Enters the Home

The FilterWall IM2 is installed on the incoming cold-water mains line before the treated supply is distributed through the property.

Water first passes through the PX05MP2 sediment cartridge and then the CB10MP2 carbon block before continuing to applicable downstream taps, showers and fixtures.

This provides central filtration rather than treating only one drinking-water outlet.

STAGE 1

Puretec PX05MP2 5 Micron Sediment Cartridge

The first stage uses Puretec's PX05MP2, a 5 micron, 4.5" × 20" MaxiPlus sediment cartridge manufactured from virgin polypropylene.

Puretec uses graded-density polyspun construction to provide depth filtration through the cartridge.

5 Micron

The PX05MP2 has a nominal 5 micron filtration rating.

```
Dirt & Rust
Designed to reduce suspended dirt and particulate rust from the incoming supply.
Sand & Silt
Provides depth filtration for sand, silt and similar suspended material.
Algae
Puretec also lists suspended algae among the material reduced by the PX Series.
Graded Depth Media
The density changes through the polypropylene media to capture particulate matter through the cartridge depth.
156 L/min
Puretec lists the individual PX05MP2 cartridge at up to 156 L/min. The complete FilterWall IM2 remains rated at 55 L/min.
```
STAGE 2

Puretec CB10MP2 10 Micron Carbon Block

The second stage uses Puretec's CB10MP2, a bonded activated-carbon block cartridge measuring 4.5" × 20".

Puretec lists the CB10MP2 for reduction of chlorine, unwanted taste, odour and sediment.

10 Micron

The CB10MP2 has a nominal 10 micron filtration rating.

```
Chlorine
The activated-carbon block provides chlorine reduction within its rated operating conditions.
Taste & Odour
Designed to reduce unwanted taste and odour associated with compatible mains-water supplies.
Bonded Carbon
The cartridge uses bonded activated carbon rather than loose granular carbon media.
SilverPlus
Puretec incorporates SilverPlus technology to inhibit bacterial growth within the filter media.
60 L/min
Puretec lists the individual CB10MP2 at 60 L/min. Complete-system flow remains 55 L/min.
```
CURRENT TREATMENT FUNCTIONS

What Puretec Lists the FilterWall IM2 For

Puretec's current product and whole-house range information identifies the FilterWall IM2 for reduction of:

  • Sediment
  • Dirt and suspended particulate
  • Rust
  • Chlorine
  • Unwanted taste
  • Unwanted odour
  • Chemicals within the applicable filtration capability
  • PFAS as currently listed for the FilterWall IM2 range
Do not assume universal contaminant removal. The FilterWall IM2 should not automatically be described as removing all heavy metals, microorganisms, pesticides or dissolved minerals unless Puretec specifically lists that performance for the exact system and operating conditions.
NO SCALE-CONTROL STAGE

The IM2 Is Filtration, Not Water Softening

The FilterWall IM2 contains sediment and carbon filtration only. It does not contain Puretec's ScaleProtect™ cartridge or an ion-exchange water-softening stage.

  • No softening resin
  • No salt regeneration
  • No ScaleProtect™ cartridge
  • No automatic hardness reduction
  • No UV treatment stage
  • No reverse-osmosis membrane

If hardness or scale treatment is required, select a system specifically designed for that purpose rather than assuming it is included with the IM2.

FLOW & PRESSURE

55 L/min Nominal Flow Rate

Puretec lists the FilterWall IM2 with a nominal flow rate of 55 litres per minute.

The manufacturer lists an operating pressure range of 200–875 kPa and supplies a 500 kPa pressure limiting valve as part of the FilterWall assembly.

A 55 L/min rating does not guarantee unchanged pressure at every property. Actual flow and pressure depend on the incoming mains supply, pipe size, fittings, simultaneous household demand and cartridge condition.
PLUMBING CONNECTION

20 mm / ¾" BSP Inlet & Outlet

The current FilterWall IM2 uses 20 mm / ¾" BSP water connections.

Puretec's installation guidance specifies connection to the cold-water line using suitable 20 mm copper, PEX or other approved plumbing materials.

Inlet and outlet connection fittings to the home's pipework need to suit the installation and are not automatically supplied as part of every wall-plumbing arrangement.

BUILT-IN VALVING

Isolation, Pressure Limiting & Bypass Access

The FilterWall filtration assembly incorporates valve components that allow the installed system to be isolated and serviced from within the cabinet.

  • Inlet shut-off valve
  • Outlet shut-off valve
  • Bypass shut-off valve
  • 500 kPa pressure limiting valve
  • Non-return function within the supplied valve assembly
  • Pressure-relief buttons on the filter heads
The bypass is manual, not automatic. Puretec specifies the bypass for system failure, repair or situations where the water supply cannot be interrupted. Water supplied while the system is bypassed is unfiltered.
FOUR COVER COLOURS

Choose the Exterior Finish to Suit the Home

The FilterWall IM2 is available with four exterior cover finishes using registered Australian building-colour names.

Night Sky® FILTERWALL-IM2-NS-LF
```
Monument® FILTERWALL-IM2-MN-LF
Windspray® FILTERWALL-IM2-WS-LF
Surfmist® FILTERWALL-IM2-SM-LF
```

The colour names are registered trademarks of BlueScope Steel Limited. This does not mean every structural component of the FilterWall should be described as manufactured from BlueScope Steel.

WEATHER PROTECTION

Designed for an Integrated Exterior Installation

Puretec describes the lockable FilterWall cover as providing protection for the filtration system from harsh Australian weather while maintaining a finished exterior appearance.

The installation guide still specifies that the enclosure and system should be protected from unsuitable harsh environments, including excessive heat, direct sunlight, saltwater spray, direct water exposure and freezing conditions.

The installation position should therefore follow Puretec's current builder and plumbing requirements rather than assuming the cabinet can be fitted in any exposed location.

  • Provide access to the removable front cover
  • Allow room to remove the 20-inch filter bowls
  • Follow the applicable Puretec builder plans
  • Protect from freezing and unsuitable exposure
Puretec requires licensed-plumber installation. The current FilterWall guide states that installation must be completed by a licensed plumber and warns that faulty operation resulting from unqualified installation can affect warranty coverage.
MAINTENANCE

Replace Both Cartridges Every 6–12 Months

Puretec's current FilterWall user guide specifies replacement of the filter cartridges every 6–12 months, depending on water quality and usage.

Puretec also identifies the return of unwanted taste or odour and a decrease in water flow as indicators that the cartridges may require replacement.

PX05MP2

The first-stage sediment cartridge can load more quickly where the incoming mains supply carries higher particulate levels.

```
CB10MP2
The carbon block should be replaced within the applicable service interval rather than being left in service indefinitely.
O-Rings
Puretec recommends replacement of the filter-housing O-rings approximately every 3–5 years to help maintain a watertight seal.
```
FILTER REPLACEMENT

Manual Isolation & Housing Service

The FilterWall IM2 does not use an automatic cartridge shut-off or quick-twist cartridge system. Puretec's service procedure requires the water supply to be isolated and pressure relieved before the bowls are opened.

  • Close the inlet isolation valve
  • Open a downstream tap to relieve pressure
  • Close the outlet valve
  • Keep the bypass closed during normal cartridge replacement
  • Use the supplied spanner to remove the filter bowls
  • Remove the used PX05MP2 and CB10MP2 cartridges
  • Clean the filter bowls with soap and warm water
  • Inspect the housing O-rings
  • Apply suitable food-grade lubricant where required
  • Install the replacement cartridges in the correct sequence
  • Reassemble the filter bowls without overtightening
  • Restore the inlet and outlet valves
  • Check the system for leaks
  • Flush the replacement cartridges for approximately 2 minutes

GARAGE INSTALLATIONS

Puretec FilterWall IMF2 Is the Framed Alternative

Puretec also offers the FilterWall IMF2, which is based on the in-wall FilterWall concept but includes a 50 mm frame specifically intended for garage installations.

If the installation location is a garage rather than an exterior wall integrated into the building finish, compare the exact IM2 and IMF2 configurations before ordering.
