CONTINUOUS FLOW CONNECTION KIT

Continuous Flow Gas Hot Water Valve Kit

A new continuous-flow gas hot water system is only part of the installation. The surrounding isolation valves, connection fittings and exposed pipework also need to be suitable for the new appliance.

This continuous-flow gas hot water valve kit provides the core connection components used when installing a compatible external continuous-flow water heater, including a gas isolation valve, water isolation valve, swivel fittings and pipe insulation.

The kit is designed to be purchased with your new hot water system where the existing valves or connection hardware should not be reused, are missing, are unsuitable for the replacement unit or need to be renewed as part of the installation.

When the valve kit is purchased together with the applicable Installed Today installation package, up to 2 metres of associated pipework installed is included under the installation terms.

What you are buying: the valve kit supplies the listed gas and water isolation components, swivel fittings and insulation required for the kit. It does not automatically include a tempering valve, pressure-limiting valve, major pipework alterations or other site-specific components unless those items are separately listed or purchased.
WHAT'S INCLUDED

What Comes in the Continuous Flow Valve Kit?

Gas Isolation Valve

Provides a local shut-off point for the gas supply to the continuous-flow appliance so the unit can be isolated for servicing, maintenance or replacement.

Water Isolation Valve

Provides a convenient means of isolating the incoming water supply to the appliance without unnecessarily shutting down the property's complete water service.

Swivel Fittings

Connection fittings that assist with appliance installation and make future disconnection or servicing more practical where compatible with the selected unit.

Insulation Kit

Insulation for applicable exposed hot-water pipework to help reduce unwanted heat loss and protect the finished connection arrangement.

Exact component sizing and final connection arrangement are confirmed against the selected continuous-flow water heater and the existing site conditions.

WHY REPLACE OLD VALVES?

Why Install New Connection Valves With a New Water Heater?

Existing valves can remain in service for many years, but age alone does not prove that they are suitable for a new appliance.

Old valves and fittings can be seized, leaking, corroded, incorrectly positioned or simply unsuitable for the connection arrangement required by the replacement continuous-flow system.

Installing a new valve kit can provide a clean serviceable connection arrangement around the new appliance and reduce reliance on ageing components immediately adjacent to the water heater.

A new valve kit is not a guarantee against future leaks or maintenance. The rest of the property's plumbing and gas installation remains separate from the components supplied in this kit.
GAS ISOLATION

Why Is a Gas Isolation Valve Important?

A local gas isolation valve allows the appliance gas supply to be shut off when the continuous-flow system needs servicing, testing, replacement or other authorised work.

The valve must be suitable for the gas service and installed in an appropriate accessible position by the licensed gas fitter.

The valve kit does not change the capacity of the property's existing gas service. If the replacement water heater requires more gas than the existing pipework or supply can provide, a separate gas upgrade may still be required.

WATER ISOLATION

Why Is a Water Isolation Valve Included?

The water isolation valve allows the incoming supply to the water heater to be shut off locally.

This makes future maintenance and appliance replacement more practical and avoids depending on an old, inaccessible or unreliable isolation point where a new valve is required.

Other water-pressure or backflow-control components may also be required depending on the actual installation. They are not automatically included simply because a water isolation valve forms part of this kit.

SWIVEL CONNECTIONS

What Do the Swivel Fittings Do?

Swivel fittings help provide a removable mechanical connection between the appliance and associated pipework where they are suitable for the selected continuous-flow unit.

They can make the final connection neater and assist with future servicing because the appliance can be disconnected without unnecessarily disturbing larger sections of fixed pipework.

The installer determines the final orientation and fitting arrangement to suit the manufacturer's connection points and the existing services.

PIPE INSULATION

Why Is Pipe Insulation Included?

Insulating applicable exposed hot-water pipework helps reduce heat loss between the water heater and the downstream plumbing.

It also provides a more finished installation around the appliance where exposed hot-water pipework requires insulation.

Pipe insulation does not create a guaranteed electricity or gas saving. Actual heat loss depends on pipe length, water temperature, usage and the complete plumbing installation.
VALVE KIT + INSTALLATION

Purchase Installation & Get Up to 2m of Associated Pipework Installed

When the continuous-flow valve kit is purchased together with the applicable Installed Today installation package, the installation scope includes up to 2 metres of associated pipework installed for the valve-kit connection.

This allowance is designed for normal connection work around the replacement water heater where the purchased valves and fittings need to be incorporated into the new installation.

It does not convert the package into an unlimited plumbing allowance. Genuine relocation, long pipe runs, major rerouting and substantial changes to the property's existing plumbing or gas service remain additional work.

2M PIPEWORK ALLOWANCE

What Does the Included 2m of Pipework Cover?

The pipework allowance applies when this valve kit is purchased with the matching installation service and is intended for the normal connection work associated with fitting the purchased valve kit.

  • Connection work around the replacement appliance
  • Normal adjustment between old and new connection positions
  • Installation of the purchased valves and fittings
  • Neat connection of the replacement system

The allowance does not include major relocation, extended runs across the property, extensive concealed work, structural modifications or major gas-service upgrades.

TEMPERATURE CONTROL

Does This Valve Kit Include a Tempering Valve?

No. A separate tempering valve is not listed as part of this continuous-flow valve kit.

Queensland requirements do, however, require the appropriate temperature-control arrangement when a new or replacement water heater supplies fixtures used primarily for personal hygiene.

For ordinary residential applications, heated water supplied to those fixtures generally needs to be limited to no more than 50°C.

The required temperature-control device can vary with the appliance and installation. The accepted pathway may use a suitable:

  • Tempering valve
  • Thermostatic mixing valve
  • Thermostatically controlled tap
  • Temperature-limited water heater
A separate tempering valve is therefore not automatically required on every continuous-flow replacement. The licensed plumber confirms the compliant temperature-control arrangement for the selected appliance and property.
50°C CONTINUOUS FLOW SYSTEMS

What If the Water Heater Is Designed for Temperature-Limited Delivery?

Some continuous-flow water heaters are available in configurations designed to provide temperature-limited heated water.

Whether the appliance itself can form part of the required temperature-control solution depends on the exact model, its approved configuration and how the heated-water service is arranged.

The installer must confirm that the completed installation provides the required delivery temperature to the applicable fixtures rather than assuming that every continuous-flow model satisfies the requirement in the same way.

60°C SYSTEMS

What If the Continuous Flow Unit Delivers Water Above 50°C?

If the selected appliance supplies heated water above the permitted delivery temperature for personal-hygiene fixtures, a suitable temperature-control arrangement is required downstream.

Depending on the property, this can mean retaining a suitable existing device or purchasing and installing an appropriate new temperature-control device.

A higher-temperature continuous-flow unit should not simply be connected directly to bathrooms or other affected sanitary fixtures without the required temperature control.

NOT A COMPLETE GAS UPGRADE

Does the Valve Kit Upgrade the Existing Gas Supply?

No. The kit provides connection and isolation components around the appliance. It does not increase the capacity of the property's gas pipework, gas meter or LPG supply.

The replacement continuous-flow system must still be compatible with the available gas type, pressure and flow capacity.

A larger continuous-flow heater can require more gas than the old unit. If the existing gas service is undersized for the replacement appliance, additional gas work must be completed separately.
NOT A COMPLETE WATER-PRESSURE KIT

Does the Valve Kit Include Every Possible Water-Control Valve?

No. The supplied kit contents are the gas isolation valve, water isolation valve, swivel fittings and insulation kit described on this page.

Depending on the actual property and water heater, additional plumbing components may be required for matters such as:

  • Temperature control
  • Water-pressure management
  • Backflow or non-return requirements
  • Other appliance-specific connection requirements

These components should only be added where they are actually required for the selected installation.

COMPATIBILITY

Will This Valve Kit Fit Every Continuous Flow Water Heater?

The kit is intended for continuous-flow gas hot water installations, but the final connection arrangement must suit the actual appliance and site.

Different manufacturers and models can use different connection positions, gas inputs and installation layouts.

The licensed installer confirms that the supplied components are appropriate for the unit being installed and determines any additional fittings or work required.

WHEN TO ADD THE KIT

When Should You Purchase a New Valve Kit?

A new kit is particularly useful where:

  • The existing isolation valves are old or seized
  • The existing valves are leaking
  • The existing connection arrangement is unsuitable
  • The replacement unit has different connection positions
  • The existing fittings cannot be reliably reused
  • A cleaner serviceable installation is required
  • There is no suitable local gas isolation valve
  • There is no suitable local water isolation valve
  • Applicable exposed hot-water pipework requires insulation

The installer can still identify additional requirements once the existing installation and selected appliance are assessed.

WHAT'S NOT INCLUDED

What Is Not Included in the Continuous Flow Valve Kit?

Temperature-Control Equipment

A separate tempering valve, thermostatic mixing valve or other temperature-control device is not included unless specifically purchased.

Gas-Service Upgrades

Gas-line upsizing, meter alterations, long new gas runs and other capacity upgrades are separate.

Major Plumbing Changes

Relocation, major rerouting and pipework beyond the applicable installation allowance are not part of the valve kit.

Electrical Work

Power points, electrical circuits, extensions, conversions and other electrical work for powered continuous-flow systems are separate.

INSTALLATION

Who Installs the Valve Kit?

Gas and plumbing connection work associated with a continuous-flow gas water heater must be completed by appropriately licensed trades.

When the valve kit is purchased together with an eligible Installed Today continuous-flow installation package, the attending licensed installer fits the purchased components as part of the approved installation scope.

Supply-only customers should provide the kit and water heater to their own appropriately licensed installer.

BEFORE ORDERING

What Should You Check Before Adding the Valve Kit?

  • The new appliance is a continuous-flow gas water heater
