Hot Water System Installation Package
Buying your new hot water system is only the first step. The Hot Water System Installation Package covers the labour required to professionally install the system and compatible accessories purchased with your order.
The standard package is designed around an external, ground-floor replacement installation where the existing location, plumbing, drainage, gas supply or electrical supply are suitable for the selected replacement system.
Installed Today installs what you buy. Valves, fittings, additional pipework, electrical upgrades, supporting bases and other accessories are not automatically included unless they are purchased separately with the order.
What's Included in Your Installation Package?
Hot Water System Installation
Labour to professionally install your purchased hot water system in the approved external replacement position.
Purchased Valve Kits & Accessories
Compatible valve kits and installation accessories purchased with your order can be fitted as part of the installation.
Electrical Disconnect & Reconnect
Standard electrical disconnect and reconnect is included where the existing circuit and connection are suitable for the replacement appliance.
Gas Compliance Where Applicable
Gas compliance assessment and certification are included where applicable to the qualifying gas hot water installation.
QBCC Form 4 Where Required
Submission of the applicable QBCC Form 4 and payment of the relevant fee are included where required for the installation.
Old Unit Removed From Position
The existing unit can be disconnected and removed from its installed position. Disposal or recycling must be selected separately where required.
Add a Valve Kit & Get Up to 2m of Pipework Installed
Add a compatible hot water valve kit to your order and the valve-kit installation includes up to 2 metres of applicable connection pipework for a standard installation.
This allows the new valves and connections to be installed neatly around the replacement hot water system.
Additional pipework, non-standard fittings, relocation work or significant plumbing modifications are outside the standard allowance and may require additional work.
What Is Not Included in Standard Installation?
The installation package covers labour for the approved standard replacement. It does not automatically provide every component or modification that may be required at the property.
- Valves not purchased with your order
- Fittings not included in a selected accessory package
- Additional pipework outside an included allowance
- Relocation of the hot water system
- Major plumbing modifications
- New or upgraded gas pipework
- New electrical circuits
- Electrical rewiring or circuit extensions
- Electrical load upgrades
- New supporting base unless purchased
- Additional drainage rectification
- Difficult-access handling unless purchased
- Old-system disposal unless selected separately
- Work outside the approved installation scope
What Counts as a Standard Replacement?
The standard installation package is based on replacing the existing hot water system in the same external ground-floor location using suitable existing services.
External Location
The replacement system must be installed externally unless another arrangement has been approved before installation.
Same Installation Position
The new system should remain in the existing hot water location unless relocation work has been approved and purchased separately.
Existing Services Suitable
Existing plumbing, drainage, gas and electrical services must be suitable for the selected replacement unless additional work has been purchased.
Which Hot Water System Replacements Can Be Installed?
| Existing System | Replacement System | What to Check |
|---|---|---|
| Gas Storage | Gas Storage | Existing gas supply, plumbing and installation position must suit the replacement. |
| Continuous Flow Gas | Gas Storage | Gas supply, plumbing, drainage and final position must be suitable. |
| Continuous Flow Gas | Continuous Flow Gas | Existing compatible power point must be reused or already installed where required. |
| Electric Storage | Electric Storage | Existing electrical circuit must have sufficient capacity for the new system. |
| Electric Storage | Heat Pump | Electrical supply, airflow, condensate drainage and heat pump clearances must suit the new unit. |
| Heat Pump | Heat Pump | Existing electrical supply, drainage and installation space must suit the replacement model. |
| Heat Pump | Electric Storage | Electrical circuit capacity must suit the replacement electric water heater. |
| Gas Storage | Heat Pump or Electric | A suitable new electrical circuit is required where one is not already available. |
| Continuous Flow Gas | Heat Pump or Electric | A suitable electrical circuit and supporting base may be required. |
When Is Additional Electrical Work Required?
Standard electrical disconnect and reconnect only applies where the existing circuit, cable and connection arrangement are suitable for the new appliance.
If the system type changes, the electrical load increases, the existing cable does not reach the new connection point or a new circuit is required, the appropriate electrical extension or upgrade package must be purchased.
Where Must the Hot Water System Be Installed?
The standard installation package is for an external, ground-floor installation with clear access.
The replacement should remain in the existing location unless relocation work has been approved before installation.
- External installation position
- Ground-floor location
- Same general location as existing system
- Manufacturer-required clearances
- Suitable heat pump airflow where applicable
- Suitable gas-appliance clearances where applicable
- Safe installation access
- Suitable future service access
Does the New Hot Water System Need a Solid & Level Base?
Yes. The new system must be installed on a solid, level and suitable supporting base that meets the manufacturer's installation requirements.
This may be an existing compliant concrete slab or an approved hot water system base capable of supporting the appliance when full of water.
PTR, ECV & Heat Pump Drainage
Applicable PTR and ECV discharge lines need to be correctly installed and terminate at a suitable drainage point for the property and installation.
Heat pumps can also produce condensate and may require a separate condensate drainage arrangement.
If existing drain lines discharge incorrectly, are damaged or cannot be reused with the replacement system, additional drainage work may be required.
Can Existing Hot Water Valves Be Reused?
Existing valves can only be reused where they are in good working order, correctly rated and suitable for the replacement system.
Depending on the appliance and property, required components can include a tempering valve, expansion control valve, pressure limiting valve, isolation/non-return valve and correctly rated PTR valve.
If existing valves are faulty, missing or unsuitable, a compatible valve kit must be purchased.
When Does the $300 Two-Person Installation Fee Apply?
The standard package assumes the new system can be safely moved from the delivery point to the installation position by one installer using normal trolley access.
A pre-paid $300 two-person installation fee is required where the system cannot be safely manoeuvred into position by one person.
Stairs
Any installation requiring the appliance to be moved up or down stairs requires additional handling.
Steep Driveways
Steep or difficult terrain that prevents safe single-person trolley access requires a two-person team.
Tight or Internal Access
Access through buildings, very tight spaces under approximately 1 metre wide or other restricted routes requires additional handling.
What Must Be Ready Before Installation Begins?
- Correct hot water system purchased
- External ground-floor position available
- Suitable level supporting base
- Existing plumbing suitable for replacement
- Required valve kit purchased where needed
- Electrical circuit suitable for new appliance
- Electrical upgrade package purchased where needed
- Suitable drainage available
- Heat pump airflow available where applicable
- Gas supply suitable where applicable
- Old system accessible for removal
- Required access package purchased where needed
What Happens to the Existing Hot Water System?
The existing system can be disconnected and removed from its installed position as part of the replacement installation.
Disposal or recycling is a separate add-on and should be selected at checkout where you want the old unit taken away.
If the old unit itself has difficult access, additional handling requirements may also apply.
What Can Change the Installation Scope?
Electrical Upgrades
New circuits, rewiring, cable extensions, changed electrical loads or different connection requirements need additional electrical work.
Plumbing Modifications
Relocation, additional pipework, drainage rectification, replacement valves and major plumbing changes sit outside a standard replacement.
Difficult Access
Stairs, steep access, internal travel routes, restricted spaces or any installation requiring two people to safely position the appliance requires the applicable access package.
What Happens If Installation Cannot Proceed?
If the installation cannot proceed because the property does not meet the agreed installation requirements, the job may need to be delayed until the required work, accessories or access arrangements have been organised.
Additional costs, including applicable call-out charges, may apply where a technician attends but cannot complete the installation because required site conditions have not been met.
Questions About the Hot Water Installation Package
Does the Installation Package Include the Hot Water System?
No. The hot water system is purchased separately. The installation package covers the installation labour.
Does Installation Include Valves?
No. Required valves and valve kits must be purchased separately. Compatible components purchased with your order can be fitted during installation.
Are Fittings and Pipework Included?
Not automatically. If a compatible valve kit and valve-kit installation are purchased, up to 2 metres of applicable connection pipework is included under that package.
Can You Relocate My Hot Water System?
Relocation is outside the standard package unless the required additional work has been approved and purchased separately.
Can the Standard Installation Be Done Indoors?
The standard Installed Today installation package is based on an external, ground-floor installation.
Does the Package Include Electrical Work?
Standard disconnect and reconnect is included where the existing circuit is suitable. New circuits, extensions, rewiring or load upgrades require additional electrical work.
What If I Change From Gas to Electric or Heat Pump?
A suitable electrical circuit is required. If the property does not already have the required supply, an electrical upgrade package must be purchased.
Can Electric Storage Be Replaced With a Heat Pump?
Yes, where the electrical supply is suitable and the new position meets the heat pump's airflow, drainage and service-clearance requirements.
Can Continuous Flow Gas Be Replaced With a Heat Pump?

What If My Existing Valves Are Faulty?
A compatible valve kit or replacement valves must be purchased before installation where the existing components are faulty, missing or unsuitable.
What If I Don't Have a Suitable Base?
A suitable manufacturer-approved base must be arranged before the new system can be installed.
What If My Access Is Difficult?
If the unit cannot be safely moved to the installation position by one installer using normal trolley access, the pre-paid $300 two-person installation fee applies.
Does a Heat Pump Need Extra Drainage?
Heat pumps normally require condensate drainage in addition to the hot water system's safety-valve drainage.
Can Extra Work Be Added on Installation Day?
Additional requirements should be identified and purchased before installation wherever possible. Work outside the agreed scope may require a separate arrangement.
